How-to get or give recommendations on LinkedIn

LinkedIn recommendations are a valuable way to showcase your professional skills and build credibility. Here’s how you can request and give recommendations on LinkedIn:

Requesting Recommendations:

1. From Your Profile:
   • Go to your LinkedIn profile.
   • Scroll down to the “Recommendations” section.
   • Click the “+” sign.
   • Choose “Ask for a recommendation”.
   • Select the connection you want to ask for a recommendation.
   • Specify your relationship with them and the context (e.g., worked together, managed, etc.).
   • Write a personalized message highlighting the skills or achievements you’d like them to mention.
   • Send the request and wait for their response.
2. From a Connection’s Profile:
   • Visit the profile of the person you want a recommendation from.
   • Click the “More…” button below their profile picture.
   • Select “Request a Recommendation” from the drop-down menu.
   • Choose your relationship to the recommender and your position during your collaboration.

Giving Recommendations:

1. From Your Profile:
   • Scroll down to the “Recommendations” section.
   • Click the “+” sign.
   • Select “Give a recommendation”.
   • Choose the connection you want to recommend.
   • Specify your relationship with them.
   • Write a thoughtful recommendation highlighting their strengths and accomplishments.
   • Send the recommendation.
2. From a Connection’s Profile:
   • Visit the profile of the person you want to recommend.
   • Click the “More…” button below their profile picture.
   • Select “Recommend” from the drop-down menu.
   • Follow the prompts to write a personalized recommendation.
